Visual effects tools and artistry are at the point where everything is possible. It allows the creative mind limitless possibilities for expression. Just like in the banner above everything on the screen is computer generated accept for the person walking and the doorway behind him. Visual effects are best used as a tool to digitally produce things that can not be filmed in a physical world. In the case above, the shot was made on top of a 5,000 foot mountain. The limited access to the mountain made it impossible to build a house up there. Visual Effects came in real handy to provide creative with tools to compose the visual frame the way they wanted without any compromises. This is the power of a subtle use of visual effects that the viewer will most likely never notice. There are other examples of visual effects that are not quite as subtle. Bringing dinosaurs to life, making futuristic space battles, or making cartoons, is all part of a digital production.
